2009 CHALLENGER REGISTRATION After 3 very successful years, we are looking forward to another great season of Challenger/Life Skills baseball in Dillsburg. As we’ve seen over the past three seasons, our players have shown steady improvement in their skill sets and general knowledge of the game. The structured practices and positive reinforcement of the skills we teach, has shown that many of these players have untapped potential that can be developed with a little extra time and effort. Our goal is to provide a fun structured baseball experience for those who would otherwise, never have these opportunities. Our games focus on community involvement of the parents and players of Dillsburg Youth Baseball, and the response has been outstanding. We hope 2009 brings us many new faces to join our team and be part of a very positive and fun program. Registration for the 2009 Challenger/Life Skills baseball season will be coordinated by coaches Mike Junkins and Chuck Loyd. You may print the registration forms directly from this website and mail to either of the addresses listed below, or call either coach at the numbers listed. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding our program, or offer reference contacts for other players who are currently on our roster. If you have any questions, or concerns regarding your child’s specific needs, please don’t hesitate to call.
Thank you for your interest, Mike Junkins Mike Junkins 230 N Grantham Rd Dillsburg, PA 17019 H 796-0927 Cell 503-6537 Or Chuck Loyd 285 Poplar Rd Dillsburg, PA 17019 H 432-9439 Cell 649-1337 Little League Challenger Division The Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League Baseball to enable boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities, ages 5-18 or the completion of high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age, and can include as many as 15-20 players, who can participate in one of three levels: Tee-Ball, Coach-Pitch or Player Pitch.
Each player gets a chance at bat. The side is retired when the offense has batted through the roster, or when a pre-determined number of runs has been scored, or when three outs are recorded. Little League recommends that no score be kept during games. The Challenger players wear the same uniforms, shoulder patches and safety equipment as other Little League players.
One of the benefits of having a Challenger Division is that it encourages the use of "buddies" for the Challenger players. The buddies assist the Challenger players on the field but whenever possible, encourage the players to bat and make plays themselves. However, the buddy is always nearby to help when needed.
