Now that the season is finally over (who would have thought we would be playing in weather this warm, as well as playing on November 3rd?), I would like to take a moment to thank all of our umpires that helped to make this a sucessful season. Just like managers, coaches & parents, most umpires were often leaving directly from work to make it to the game site on time. A couple of our umpires were calling games, after school, (even at times) after the game they were playing in, was over. Just to show exactly how busy they were, there were 176 games from Minors regular season, through Teener Fall Ball that this group covered. There was a mid-season slugfest, and the Summer classic. Out of those 176 games only 6 were not covered by at least 1 certified umpire. Please join me in thanking them when you see them.

In closing I would like to inform everyone that reads this, that in the spring of 2008, DYB will be hosting a clinic for coaches & managers. This will be the first two sessions of the umpire clinic, where rules and interpretations are covered, and all of your "what if" questions will be answered. In the past, it seems as though managers & coaches didn't have time to travel to Newville, Redland, Camp Hill or South Hanover (nearest locations recently) to attend these sessions. Now there is no reason to travel. In March, we will be holding the clinic at the Franklintown Fire Hall. I look forward to seeing all of the 2008 managers & coaches there.
